Worried about your child at school?

Regardless of your child’s issues, Down’s Syndrome, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, cerebral palsy, developmental delay – they deserve to get an education in a school of your choosing who accommodate their needs. This is required by law under the Equality Act 2012.

It can be a mind field knowing what your child might need, ensuring the teachers understand and recognise these issues and support your child. Sometime as a parent you can face hostilities and frustration.

Some schools are incredibly accommodating, others seem to put barriers in the way. Regardless, you are entitled by law to have appropriate accommodations. This can often be more difficult for a ‘less visible’ condition where difficulties are not so overt or obvious. A well written report by an Occupational Therapist can support an EHCP (Education Health and Care Plan), statementing or accommodating a young person’s needs in schools and making clear why these changes are needed and the timescale required.
